Correction of facial asymmetry with unilateral condylar hyperplasia by manidibular rotation

Abstract

|
Unilateral condylectomy has been the accepted method for the correction of unilateral condylar heperplasia. But asymmetry is not always well corrected because of the position of the maxilla and occlusal plane that determines the position of the
mandible
the unilateral condylectomy only. So mandibular ramus surgery may be necessary for the repositioning of the mandible as an additional procedure. But in this case unilateral condylar hyperplasia, both the asymmertry and the occlusion were
simmultaneously
corrected by rotation of mandible around the unaffected condyle after the unilteral condylectomy without the additional mandibular ramus surgery. The postoperative facial appearance and mandibular function were relatively satisfactory.
